Students from Coleg Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire College recently visited Canolfan S4C yr Egin<\/a> at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David to find out about the exciting opportunities available within the creative industries in West Wales. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYr Egin aims to ignite creative energy, and welcoming students from further education colleges provides a great opportunity to make this a reality.\u201d Carys Ifan, Director of Yr Egin, said, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBoth visits provided an opportunity to offer professional training in the media, arts and technology to students from Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion, as well as highlighting the opportunities available to them in West Wales in terms of higher education and career pathways.  I would like to thank the lecturers for their easy collaboration and also the students who always inspire us. We look forward to welcoming them again in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Information Technology students from Coleg Ceredigion enjoyed a day full of workshops and interesting presentations in yr Egin, receiving an introduction to the centre\u2019s vision of nurturing talent, to the 16 creative companies which have made their home there, the innovative resources in Yr Egin and the University campus. The students took part in a practical workshop under the leadership of Dr Brett Aggersberg, lecturer in Adventure Film Making<\/a> at the University, before having an opportunity to inspect the innovative immersive room on the campus and hear from the University team about the technology and opportunities which are available to them.  The day ended with a presentation by Kevin Davies, S4C Stage and Platform Manager, who shared valuable insights into their digital systems. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aled Richards, Information Technology Lecturer at Coleg Ceredigion, said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had an excellent experience learning about how Yr Egin works with the other businesses here, and it was excellent to have a practical experience of creating a film and using the immersive room.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During October, Llinos Jones, Yr Egin Engagement Manager and Lowri Si\u00f4n Evans, the Coordinator of \u2018Gwd Thing : Sir Benfro, <\/em>visited Pembrokeshire College in order to introduce the University and Yr Egin to students, providing a reels creating workshop for social media as well as explaining the objectives of \u2018Gwd Thing: Sir Benfro <\/em>(a project which has received \u00a349,952 from the British Government through the UK Common Prosperity Fund which is distributed by Pembrokeshire County Council)  .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following this, Pembrokeshire\u2019s Media Production students spent a full day in Yr Egin, taking part in presentations and workshops with Stori Cymru and ReThink PR and Marketing, two professional local companies who work closely with the Centre.  The sessions also included input from James Owen, Owner of Stori Cymru who is also an alumnus of the university, who shared his experience of developing a career in the creative sector in West Wales. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denys Bassett-Jones from Pembrokeshire College said: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe workshops were excellent and the students were very positive about their experiences.  The students received extensive knowledge, and I\u2019m sure they will use what they learned yesterday in their assessments and external projects in the future.  It is always more effective when the message comes from someone else instead of from us! Hopefully we can find a way to connect and work together in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The partnership between Yr Egin and the local colleges continues to inspire students to consider a career in the creative industries through visits like these, fostering valuable collections between education, industry and West Wales communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
