Canolfan S4C Yr Egin is proud to announce that we have been shortlisted for the Careers Wales ‘Valuable Partner Awards’ for the second year in a row, within the ‘Best Promoter of the Welsh Language in the Workplace’ category. The nomination comes as a result of work that Yr Egin does in partnership with Careers Wales to inform, inspire and motivate young people about their career opportunities within the creative industries. Yr Egin’s’ Valuable Partner’ this year was Bro Myrddin Welsh Comprehensive School.
Llinos Jones, Yr Egin’s Engagement Manager, said
“It is a great honor for us to be shortlisted in the category of ‘Best Promoter of the Welsh Language’ in the Careers Wales awards. We are very pleased to offer workshops on specialist conversations for children and young people, supporting teachers in discussing future career paths. I work closely with Careers Wales, and the support we get is so important to help us connect with schools and students. The center really comes alive when we have young people here, and that brings me so much pride, knowing that some of these young people could be the creative workforce of the region in the future.”
Yr Egin provides a multitude of experiences and pathways for primary and secondary school pupils, during school time as well as extracurricular activites and for further education and University students, promoting the career opportunities in the creative industries in west Wales. During 2024, we worked closely with Ysgol Bro Myrddin, inspiring over 200 young people, through several activities and numerous opportunities such as careers days in Yr Egin and at the school, work experience, mock interviews, and an evening ‘Open Door’. Canolfan S4C Yr Egin also offers a number of Digital Clubs after school for young people of all ages.
The creative community that has settled at Yr Egi – TV companies, architects, publishers, digital creators, and composers as well as other partners in the sector, help to provide workshops, experiences and career advice that is rooted in the industry. All this takes place in a contemporary Welsh language space, where it is possible for the young people to see the language in action completely naturally and to understand that the Welsh language is an essential skill for the workplace.
Carys Ifan, Director of Canolfan S4C Yr Egin, said of the nomination
“Cultivating talent and highlighting career paths is at the heart of our mission at Yr Egin. It is always a pleasure to welcome young people to the center so that they can have a taste of the variety of opportunities available to them in the field, and to see them leave completely inspired. One of Yr Egin’s aims is to raise the status of the Welsh language and its culture in Carmarthen and the surrounding area, being on the shortlist for Best Champion of the Welsh Language in the Workplace highlights our success in achieving that. We are very proud of the close relationship we have with the schools and thank all the teachers and Careers Wales for the easy collaboration to provide the valuable opportunities.”
The awards, which celebrate the work that employers like Yr Egin have done, and continue to do, to help schools and young people, will be held in the Senedd Hall, Cardiff Bay, on the 15th of January.
