Canolfan S4C Yr Egin will step into spring by staging Yr Egin Adventure Film Festival. It will be held in Carmarthen on 20-23 March at the centre which aims to serve Wales, spark its creative imagination, and nurture the talents of the future.
An innovative event, located in west Wales, the Adventure Film Festival will be open to everyone, whether they are keen adventurers, individuals who enjoy outdoor sports or fair-weather adventurers who appreciate a good story.
The aim of the festival is to celebrate adventurers and content creators who show the world of adventure at its best. The films will be shown on the big screen in the theatre at Canolfan S4C Yr Egin during the festival.
Funded by Film Cymru, the in-person and online festival will offer participants the opportunity to enjoy a selection of film screenings and talks, as well as hearing from experts in the field.
Among the guest speakers are Tori James – the first Welsh person ever to climb Mount Everest, Mari Huws – warden of Ynys Enlli and Huw Erddyn – Television Director of Cwmni Da.
The opening day of the festival, Wednesday 20th March, is supported by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol and it will be an opportunity for students from universities and colleges from across the country to come together for an adventure conference, which will focus specifically on how to respond to the climate crisis.
Throughout the festival there will be screenings of innovative films from adventurers and companies such as Coldhouse Collective, Summit Fever Media and Cwmni Da, as well as a unique opportunity to attend film workshops to learn the basics of what makes a great film.
One of the most exciting aspects of the festival for ambitious adventurers, whether they are filmmakers, students, schools, creative individuals or community groups, is the opportunity to present their work in Yr Egin Adventure Film Festival competition.
A judging panel will watch all the films submitted to Yr Egin Adventure Film Festival and will be responsible for presenting winners for the following categories:
1. Spirit of Adventure
2. Responding to climate challenges
The competition will be open to films of any type and length that fall within the above categories.
Among the awards will be Best Artistic Film, Best Soundtrack, Best Film in Wales and Best Film Beyond Wales.
The closing date for the competition is Friday 23rd February and the winners of all categories will be announced during the festival.
Carys Ifan, Director of Yr Egin S4C Center said;
“It is a pleasure and an honour to be able to announce that we are preparing for Yr Egin Adventure Film Festival.
“West Wales is a hub for outdoor sports and what better place to hold a festival of its kind than here at Canolfan S4C Yr Egin.
“As well as welcoming a number of experienced adventurers from Wales to the festival to share their experiences with the audience, we are really looking forward to seeing new work from potential adventurers and film producers.
“This is a special opportunity for us to celebrate and enjoy our local talent and give our landscape and adventurers the attention they deserve on the big screen.”
Tickets for the festival will be on sale here from Thursday 1st February.
